Dr. Ali Raza’s research seeks to understand how practical measurement tools are used to support equitable contributions in science and math classrooms. He has co-designed and developed visual learning analytics systems displaying visualizations of students’ experience data and has extensively partnered with more than 150 K12 educators to bring improvement in students’ participation. In the past, the inquiry cycles contributed to differential improvements in experience for students identifying as Black/African Americans for their relevance of science, and Asian, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, and White students’ coherence of science. Recently, he partnered with two school districts to support the use of students’ experience measures and implement evidence-based strategies following a Plan-Do-Study-Act inquiry cycle for over a year. Further, he also started to partner with engineering instructors in the higher education space to support the use of multimodal practical measures to promote students’ sense of belonging in their classrooms.
