UCSD / High Tech High Graduate School of Education

David is a PhD student in Education Studies at UCSD. Prior to beginning his doctoral studies, he served as a teacher, administrator, and consultant in California public district and charter schools. David researches school and district administrator’s beliefs about equity, including how these beliefs are developed and translated into professional practice. He draws on sociological theory and social network analysis to better understand the implications of equity mindsets for policy-making and change in traditional school district environments. He is involved in a number of collaborative projects, including both local and regional research-practice partnerships. He has conducted research on Improvement Science and equity in EdD programs and Relational Inclusivity for students identified as having special education needs or disabilities. Additionally, he coordinates and teaches the 3-course capstone series for the Master’s in Education Leadership at the High Tech High Graduate School of Education. In the series, his students design and implement an improvement project for equity in their context using tools from Improvement Science augmented by liberatory frameworks.
