Dr. Jianping Shen received his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Washington in Seattle. He is a professor of educational leadership at Western Michigan University, where he holds the John E. Sandberg Professorship of Education and currently serves as the Gwen Frostic Endowed Chair. Dr. Shen has published over 120 peer-reviewed journal articles and (co)authored or (co)edited seven books. His work has been published in journals such as American Educational Research Journal, Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis, Educational Administration Quarterly, and Educational Research Review. He has a book titled Renewing Schools in a Bifurcated Education System in press with Cambridge University Press. His research interests include leadership theory, school leadership and renewal, data-informed decision-making, teacher retention, alternative certification, research methods, among other areas. Dr. Shen has directed and co-directed large, externally funded projects totaling about $60 million. Among several lines of work, Dr. Shen and his colleagues developed the school renewal (vs. reform) model, which is built on the theory of bifurcated educational system, the theory of win-win leadership, the construct of leadership density, the construct of high integrity and fidelity implementation (HIFI), etc.
